Philadelphia University seeks instructor for “Sport, Society and Culture”

Philadelphia University has an opening in the fall semester for a part-time instructor to teach “Sport, Society and Culture,” a sociology/cultural studies course that analyzes the place of sport in society, using a global perspective.  This is a general education course that is capped at 25 students, and it meets on a Mon/Wed schedule from 11 am to 12:15 pm starting on August 25th.  A PhD (or expected completion of PhD by August 2014) in sociology, anthropology or related field is preferred, but ABD and MA degrees will be considered.

TITLE OF POSITION:

Adjunct Instructor, Sociology of Sports

STATUS:

Part-time, one-semester contract

DEPARTMENT:

College of Science, Health and the Liberal Arts

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be qualified to teach “Sport, Society and Culture,” a sociology/cultural studies course that analyzes the place of sport in society, using a global perspective. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and experienced teacher who applies active student-learning methods in the classroom. 

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

PhD (or expected completion of PhD by July 2014) in sociology, anthropology or related field is preferred. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This fall semester course meets on a Mon/Wed schedule from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm. Classes begin on August 25th and final grades are due by December 19th.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

Candidates should submit a letter of application detailing experiences and areas of academic specialization and a curriculum vita.  Additional materials may be requested at a later date.  Review of candidates will begin in mid-July and continue until the position is filled.
