Kellie McGarrh Travel Fund for research related to teacher education issues (PhD students)

Students interested in applying for the Kellie McGarrh Travel Fund should submit their proposal to Dr. Susan Benner’s office by September 15.  This award will be for travel August 1, 2014-December 31, 2014.

In 1996, a student travel fund was established as a memorial to Kellie W. McGarrh, a doctoral graduate of our College.  The money is used to support doctoral candidates who make presentations at national or regional conferences.  Depending upon requests and available funds, awards may be granted each Fall and Spring term.  Eligibility criteria and procedure for application are listed below.

Eligibility

Any College of Education, Health and Human Sciences active doctoral student who is making a national or regional conference presentation related to teacher education issues may apply.  This conference presentation must be related to teacher education issues, e.g., improving the quality of teacher preparation, the restructuring of teacher education programs, innovative instructional excellence, or the provision of equal educational opportunity for all students.

Submission Request

The submission of request should have:  1) An abstract or proposal of the conference presentation (which may be submitted before acceptance by conference), 2) A statement of estimated costs for travel-transportation expenses (if car travel, please use current UTK rates), and 3) Justification of need.  Please include name, contact information, and program in which you are enrolled.  Requests should be submitted to Associate Dean Susan Benner.  A panel will review and rank proposals.  The awarding of the travel funds will be contingent on acceptance of the student’s paper by the designated professional conference.  Please be sure to include name, address, and email address
