Call for Proposals: International women’s rights conference at UT

The International House is excited to announce our first Global Issues Conference to be held April 16-17, 2015 at the University of Tennessee. This semester’s conference theme is international women’s rights, inspired by the book Half the Sky by Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristof.  Through this conference we hope to educate students and increase awareness of issues affecting women internationally and foster discussion of how UT students can assist those in need.

I would like to invite UTK faculty, staff, and graduate students to submit proposals to lead sessions at the conference.  These sessions can be based in research, personal experience, or discussion and are intended to for an audience of mostly UT students.  While the conference is focusing on several major themes listed below, any submission related to international women’s issues is welcome.

• Economic Empowerment
• Education
• Forced Prostitution
• Gender-Based Violence
• Maternal Mortality
• Sex Trafficking

For more information about the conference or to submit a session proposal visit http://ihouse.utk.edu/womensconference/.  Deadline to submit is Friday, March 20, 2015 at 5pm.
Additionally, student registration is now open.
