University of Saint Mary : Opening for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Exercise Science

Greetings!  The University of Saint Mary has an opening for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Exercise Science.  This is a great opportunity for an individual who wants to be part of a new degree program in Exercise Science.  The individual will be part of a team and gain valuable experience with building and growing a program literally from the ground up.  Additionally, this individual will have the opportunity to provide input with designing and furnishing a state of the art educational/research facility.  This facility will include labs for exercise physiology, functional exercise and athletic training.   Furthermore, this individual will have the chance to collaborate with the Department of Physical Therapy and the Department of Nursing.  Physical Therapy has a fully functional biomechanics laboratory that includes a motion capture system.

Description:

The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Leavenworth is located approximately 20 minutes northwest of Kansas City.  The university offers multiple degree programs within the health science area including physical therapy, nursing, health information management, health informatics, medical laboratory science, and many pre-health science concentrations.

Position:

The University of Saint Mary invites applications for a 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor with the possibility for summer teaching in the Bachelor of Exercise Science program that launches in fall 2016.

Essential Functions:

The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate courses in the field of exercise science, direct the exercise physiology lab, and help the university effectively launch the degree.  Also, the candidate may have the opportunity to teach graduate courses in the Master of Science in Athletic Training degree that is anticipated to start in 2017.  This person will have previous experience working in an exercise physiology lab and is expected to participate in research and provide service to the university and discipline.

Along with helping to develop the exercise science degree, the individual will have the opportunity to provide input with designing and furnishing 7,000 square feet of dedicated space for exercise physiology, functional exercise and athletic training labs.  The state-of-the-art human performance education center is anticipated to open in fall 2016.

 

Minimal Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate in exercise science (ABD with a completion date within one year will be considered)
  • Previous collegiate teaching experience
  • Experience in an exercise physiology lab
  • Evidence of research or show the potential to produce research

Recommended:

  • Certification in applied exercise science (i.e. CES, PES, CSCS, CPT or others)
  • Certified Athletic Trainer

Start Date:

Position beginning August 2016
