General Summary:

Western New Mexico University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Kinesiology. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in a learner-centered environment, academic advisement, scholarly activity, curriculum development and service to the university and community. The ability to teach biomechanics, exercise physiology, kinesiology, research methods, assessment in movement sciences, wellness programming and program management, and exercise and aging is preferred. Other class assignments may include epidemiology of physical activity, principles and practices of strength and conditioning and supervision of health internships. The department welcomes applications from candidates with work experience in higher education; preference will be given to applicants who have curriculum development experience and who are able to assume a leadership role in the program.

This is a 9-month tenure-track position, under the supervision of the Kinesiology Program Director and the Associate Dean of the School of Nursing. Appointment is at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching undergraduate courses in Kinesiology that may include, but are not limited to, biomechanics, motor behavior, and applied anatomy. Preference will be given to applicants who can teach in a variety of areas within the discipline. Selected graduate teaching may be available. Additional responsibilities may include undergraduate student advising and university and professional service.

– Ability to work independently.

– Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and to interact effectively with colleagues, faculty, administrators, students, and external constituencies.

– Effectiveness in teaching, scholarship and service, in an institution of higher education.

– Knowledgeable in a variety of computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Banner, WebCT, CANVAS, or Smarthinking.

– Problem-solving abilities.

Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

– Earned Ph.D. in Kinesiology, or closely related area from an accredited university.

– Evidence of effective, university-level teaching experience.

– Excellent communication skills and evidence of collaboratively work with students, faculty, and staff.

– A record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of Kinesiology, and applicant’s expertise.

PREFERRED:

– Successful experience teaching in a college/university setting.
– Recent record of scholarly achievement and desire to continue scholarly activities.
– Evidence of service to the community or college/university.
– Computer literacy, teaching with technology.

– Evidence of activity in professional organizations.

– Evidence of collaborative work with other disciplines.

– Experience developing curriculum for outdoor activities.

– Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

– Ability to develop curriculum and teach coursework in health promotion.

– Experience in developing undergraduate internships in health promotion.

– Experience working with diverse populations and proficiency in Spanish preferred.
