The School of Health and Kinesiology invites nominations and applications for the position of Regular, Limited-Term Instructor.

Within this setting, the School of Health and Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University seeks to become an elite academic unit focusing on the interdisciplinary study of athletic training, coaching, exercise science, nutrition and food science, pedagogy, physical activity/healthful living and sport psychology. The School promotes undergraduate and graduate education, scholarship, research and grant procurement and a commitment to professional and public service. To this end this position in the School of Health and Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University will be characterized by preparing students for future excellence through interdependent leadership, innovation, and service.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the School of Health and Kinesiology, the limited term instructor requires teaching, and service, and on-going professional development in the area of Sport Management. All limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic (9/10 month) year appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the possibility of reappointment should funding permit and based upon satisfactory performance. (All reappointments are made on a one year basis.) The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Sport Management program at Georgia Southern is well-established, officially approved by the

National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and the North American Society for

Sport Management (NASSM) in 1995. Our program explores the professional side of sports —

commercial, managerial and legal — and provides our students with both the academic preparation

and hands-on training that are required for success in this highly competitive field. The successful

candidate will be able to teach two or more of the following: Introduction to Sport Management,

Social Issues in Sport, Economics of Sport, Financial Management of Sport, Management of Sport

Organizations, Sport Promotion & Marketing, Facility & Event Management, Sport Business

Operations, Legal Aspects of Sport, Sport Policy Development and supervise interns.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in Kinesiology, Sport Management or Sport Sociology, or a closely related

    field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Sport/Business Management, Sport

    Sociology, Sport Administration or Organization by August 1, 2017

  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the School, College, and University
  • Technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology into teaching
  • Commitment to professional service within the University and beyond
  • Ability to work in a diverse academic and professional community
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without

    assistance from the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or doctoral work in Kinesiology, Sport Management or related field with graduate

    credit in sport sociology, management, marketing, human resources, finance, and/or public

    relations.

  • University teaching experience
  • Commitment to teaching and learning as evidenced by prior teaching experience
  • Ability and/or willingness to learn to teach in an online environment
