NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) workshop series

Working with the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), the University of Oklahoma (OU), the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison), Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), the University of Georgia (UGA), and Louisiana State University (LSU) are coming together to provide an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) workshop series to help graduate and undergraduate students submit a competitive GRFP proposal.

Through a combination of recorded events and a synchronous online panel discussion, this workshop series will provide graduate and senior undergraduate students with information about:

  • the NSF GRFP call for proposals;
  • how to write a successful proposal to address both intellectual merit and broader impact criteria;
  • learned experiences from successful applicants and how they leveraged local and online CIRTL Network programming in their proposals.

By participating in this workshop series, prospective applicants for the GRFP will develop competitive proposals for submission.

The workshop schedule is as follows:

  • Part 1: Watch a video providing an overview of the GRFP on September 7th, 2018, recorded from Louisiana State University (LSU).
  • Part 2: Participate in the synchronous online session, led by students who have received a GRFP award. Talk in smaller groups with award recipients in a discipline similar to your own. This session will take place at 3:30–5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 13th, 2018.
  • Part 3: Watch a second video about addressing aspects of the broader impact criterion recorded from University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) on October 8th, 2018.

To register, go to CIRTL and sign in. If you don’t have a CIRTL account yet, there are instructions at Teaching and Learning Innovation. Once you’ve logged in to CIRTL, look for the Upcoming Event entitled “Writing an Effective NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program Proposal” and register.
