The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) seeks nominations from graduate and professional students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for impactful individuals and organizations who support the success of graduate students. We invite current graduate and professional students to select up to one (1) nominee for each award category listed below. Please submit your nominations by Friday, March 1, 2019 at 5:00 pm. In order to be considered, the nominations must come from a current UT graduate or professional student. Nominations must also include a justification of up to 150 words which demonstrate to the committee why the nominee is an excellent choice for the award.
Graduate Student Organization of the Year
Description: The “Graduate Student Organization of the Year” award recognizes graduate and/or professional student organizations or councils for their extraordinary contributions to graduate student life or to their respective academic department or program.
Eligibility: The nominee must be an active graduate and/or professional student organization/council at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for the 2018-19 academic year.
Graduate Professor of the Year
Description: The “Graduate Professor of the Year” award recognizes faculty and staff members who have shown outstanding commitment to teaching graduate and professional students.
Eligibility: The nominee must be a faculty or staff member contributing to graduate and professional student teaching for at least part of the 2018-19 academic year.
Graduate Research Mentor of the Year
Description: The “Graduate Research Mentor of the Year” award recognizes faculty and staff members who have shown outstanding commitment to mentoring graduate research students. Eligibility: T he nominee must be a faculty or staff member contributing to graduate and professional student research during the 2018-19 academic year.
Graduate Director of the Year
Description: The “Graduate Director of the Year” award recognizes Directors of Graduate Studies who have shown outstanding commitment to mentoring and leading graduate students in their department.
Eligibility: The nominee must be a Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for the 2018-19 academic year.
GSS Staff of the Year
Description: T he “GSS Staff of the Year” award recognizes a UT staff member who goes beyond their required duties to ensure that graduate and professional students feel welcome and matriculate successfully.
Eligibility: The nominee must be a UT staff member at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for the 2018-19 academic year.
Preparing the Professoriate Graduate Program of the Year
Description: The “Preparing the Professoriate Graduate Program of the Year” award recognizes campus-wide, departmental, and/or off-campus programs or organizations that promote innovative professional development opportunities for graduate and professional students. Eligibility: The nominee must be an active professional development program or organization during the 2018-19 academic year. These programs can be geared towards teaching, research, life after graduate school, or similar.
