Bio

Dr. Suryeon Ryu is a postdoctoral research associate at the Physical Activity Epidemiology Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies at the University of Tennessee. Specializing in physical activity epidemiology and sports pedagogy, Dr. Ryu’s research emphasizes the intersection of physical and mental health and the role of movement behavior choices.

Her research focuses on addressing health disparities among vulnerable children, youth, and emerging adults through the development and testing of physical activity interventions using emerging technologies. Dr. Ryu’s work spans both school and non-school settings, with recent projects leveraging wearable technology to promote physical activity among underserved adolescents in physical education. She is committed to enhancing health equity by developing innovative strategies that ensure equitable access to physical activity and health opportunities.

Dr. Ryu has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work at national and international conferences. She is the recipient of prestigious awards, including the Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship and the Grant to Advance Graduate Education Fellowship from the University of Minnesota. Her ongoing research continues to focus on promoting active lifestyles and improving physical and mental well-being through emerging health technologies, behavior change theories, and evidence-based pedagogical models.
