Introducing iThenticate

Dear Campus Colleagues,
Over the past several years, there has been a growing conversation about plagiarism and its impact on academic integrity. As an institution, we are committed to protecting our scholarly reputation; thus, we have invested in an institutional license for iThenticate plagiarism detection software.
iThenticate is intended to be used for scholarly works, including scholarly drafts for theses, dissertations, peer-reviewed journal submissions, and federal grant proposals. iThenticate can be used by any current student or employee with a valid UT NetID and password. There is another product in Canvas, PlagScan, that is intended to be used for classroom writing assignments.
While iThenticate is just one tool in helping combat allegations of plagiarism, it can be an important one. The Graduate Council and Faculty Senate have instituted a policy requiring that theses and dissertations be scanned by this software before the student’s defense. The Graduate School website has information to guide students and faculty through the process of using iThenticate for their theses and dissertations.
Faculty, staff, and students are also free to use this resource for other scholarly works. The Office of Research and Engagement provides aquick log in to this useful resource.
