Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition (April 2-6, 2018)

This year’s Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition that will be held during Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week (April 2-6, 2018).

The final round of the competition will include 12 graduate/professional students from across campus. Competitors have three-minutes and a single slide to communicate their research to a lay audience. More details about eligibility, rules, and the format of the competition can be found at https://gradschool.utk.edu/training-and-mentorship/3mt-three-minute-thesis-competition/.

To identify finalists, four semifinal rounds will be hosted by various UT colleges. CEHHS is partnering with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Law to host one of the semifinals in late February or early March.

CEHHS can send six (6) students to compete in this semifinal round, so our first task is to identify interested students and select the six who will represent us. Please encourage graduate/professional students you know to consider applying. This is a good opportunity to improve their presentation skills and a great way to promote the wonderful work we are doing in the college.

To apply, students need to submit the following by 9:00 am, January 12:

  1. A copy of their slide
  2. A 250 word abstract of their presentation
  3. A 3-minute video clip of their presentation

These materials must be submitted via email to Kayla Whitt (kwhitt@utk.edu) in formats that are compatible with review on a PC compatible computer running Microsoft Office programs. Students who are selected to represent the college in the semifinal round will be notified no later than January 19, which will give them approximately five weeks to improve their slides and polish their presentations.
