WRITING HELP FOR INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENTS WHOSE FIRST LANGUAGE IS NOT ENGLISH

A new service to assist international graduate students with writing is opening in Spring 2016.

Appointment and Walk-In hours begin on January 19, 2016.

In-person writing consultations with ESL specialists from the Department of English will be available at a satellite office of the Writing Center located in the Commons of the Hodges Library.

International graduate students may receive up to 1 hour of appointment time per week.

Also, students may drop in during the Walk-In hours; such students may have to wait if the tutor is meeting with another student.

Students will receive revision- oriented feedback and instruction. Proofreading, editing, and formatting are not offered. Thesis/dissertation editing is not available, but the writing specialists can provide feedback on short portions of such documents.

This new service is offered as a pilot project. We plan to assess demand, with the hope of expanding services after the project concludes. All users of the ESL Writing Center will be asked to complete a short survey after each visit so that we may assess satisfaction with the service.

The new ESL Writing Center is made possible with support from the Department of English, the UT Writing Center, the University Libraries, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
